A brand new pier, embedded
3 meters in the ground and weighing over 10,000 kg,
waits for the new telescope.
The base arrives first.
The base is hoisted
into the dome.
The tube assembly is then installed.
After a period of checking
and testing, the telescope was presented to the sponsors
of the project: The Government of British Columbia (Millennium
Fund) and the Southam Family along with representatives
of AMEC Dynamic Structures (the designers and constructors
of the telescope) and other suppliers.
Following the presentation ceremony, the telescope
underwent further assessment and fine tuning.
