Marsville 2009 - May 8, 2009

Guest speaker Dr. Allyson Hindle pumps up nearly 700 raring-to-go students from all over Metro Vancouver for the Canadian National Marsville Link-Up Day event at the UBC Student Recreation Centre. The grade five-to-seven students use household fans to inflate 32 igloo-shaped plastic bubbles into a mock Martian colony.
Marsville is a complete cross-curricular program. The 8-to-12 week team-building program challenges students to work towards a common goal. It also encourages students to apply knowledge from a variety of subject areas including science, math, technology, communications, and health. Students share their experiences, problem-solving strategies, and project results.
“We try to bring the Space Centre to the communities that are unable to visit us for whatever reason,” said Rob Appleton, Executive Director. “Marsville is just one of the ways we do that, and the kids love it.”
